Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

The international standard for digital accessibility — built around four principles that together ensure content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users, including people with disabilities.

Perceivable

Information and UI components must be presentable in ways users can perceive — including text alternatives for images, captions for audio, and adaptable content that works across assistive technologies.

Operable

Navigation and interactive elements must be functional for all users — full keyboard access, sufficient time to interact, and no content that triggers seizures or physical reactions.

Understandable

Information and interface behaviour must be clear and predictable — readable language, consistent navigation, and accessible error identification and correction guidance.

Robust

Content must be interpreted reliably by current and future assistive technologies — requiring clean semantic HTML, valid markup, and correct ARIA attribute usage.

Who does this apply to?

Websites and web applications
Native mobile applications
PDFs and digital documents
Third-party embedded content and widgets
