Compliance
European Accessibility Act (EAA)
An EU directive harmonising accessibility requirements across all member states — applying to any business offering digital products or services in the European market, with enforcement from June 2025.
Effective June 2025
Most businesses were required to meet EAA requirements by 28 June 2025. Products and services placed on the EU market after this date must comply with the directive.
Aligned with EN 301 549 / WCAG
The EAA uses EN 301 549 as its technical standard, which maps closely to WCAG 2.1 Level AA — making WCAG compliance a practical and efficient baseline for EAA conformance.
Harmonised EU-Wide
The EAA replaces fragmented national accessibility laws across member states, creating a single consistent standard for doing business across the entire European Union.
Enforceable Penalties
Member states are responsible for enforcing the EAA, with penalties varying by country. Non-compliant products and services can be required to be withdrawn from the EU market.
